3D Chocolate Printer Unveiled at Hershey’s

The Hershey’s chocolate company has teamed up with 3D Systems to unveil a 3D Chocolate Candy Printing exhibit at Hershey’s Chocolate World in Hershey, PA. Those who visit the store will be able to interact with Hershey scientists and the new technology to personalize their chocolates.

3D printing is on the rise in today’s top technology. How wonderful that it will be used to transform our already beloved chocolate into fun 3D creations! According to its press release, the model on display at the Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction is the most advanced model in operation today.

"We are committed to democratizing 3-D printing, making this game-changing technology accessible and engaging for everyone," said Chuck Hull, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, 3D Systems.

"Our partnership with Hershey, the largest producer of quality chocolate in North America and a global leader in chocolate and confections, allows us to create unique, exciting and personalized edible experiences, and this is a great way to showcase the power and possibilities of 3D printing." The exhibit, which opened December 19th, will be the public’s first chance to see 3D chocolate candy printing in action. Visitors will have the chance to watch the 3D printing, and also interact with 3D graphics loaded onto iPads to see what they would look like as a 3D piece of chocolate. How cool is that!

Hershey plans to gather insights from consumers after they have experienced the interactive exhibit through a survey system. Their feedback will influence the final design of the technology and business model for a commercial 3D chocolate candy printing experience.

"This exhibit is a great example of co-creation with consumers. They will be instrumental in shaping the future of commercially available 3D chocolate printing," said Will Papa, Chief Research and Development Officer at The Hershey Company.
