Alter Eco Dark Quinoa Organic Chocolate

I like Quinoa (pronounced keen-wah). I’ve had it in cold salads and in warm hot dishes. And, just recently, I’ve eaten it crispy and surrounded by delicious dark chocolate!

The Alter Eco brand Dark Quinoa Organic Chocolate bar is absolutely wonderful. The chocolate is 60% Ecuadorian, and the puffed Quinoa is Royal Pearl Bolivian.

Ecuadorian chocolate has always been a favorite of mine. The flavor profiles of Ecuadorian cacao typically showcase floral, fruity, and spicy notes. This particular chocolate from Alter Eco leads with an intense nutty, malty, and spicy flavor and ends with bold notes of astringent toast and cocoa.

Alter Eco (Acopagro Co-Op) may derive its quinoa from Bolivia and source it’s dark chocolate from Ecuador, but it crafts the bar in Switzerland, a land famous for expert chocolatiers.

According to their website, Alter Eco works “directly with the small-scale farmers who grow our quinoa, rice, sugar and cacao, helping them institute Fair Trade and Organic practices and assisting them in improving both quality of food and quality of life” and “Our values extend to the flora, fauna and fields – we work with our co-op partners to preserve heirloom grains, replenish and reforest the land”.

The hard “snap” of the chocolate and the crispy texture of the quinoa is perfect when you crave something crunchy and sweet. I like how the nuttiness of the quinoa and the bitterness of the chocolate blend so well and leave a pleasant after-taste in the mouth.

This is definitely the way to eat quinoa!!

Enjoy!
