Beneficial In Moderation

It's enough to make my head spin.  Yes, I'm talking about food research as it relates to health.  Here's a sample...

Coffee is widely known to make people's lives longer.  Certain studies have shown that more than normal levels of "good" cholesterol does not give people immunity from heart diseases.  Some liquors that contain alcohol, if taken in moderation, pack many benefits to our bodies, but alcohol is also an agent that causes brain shrinking.

The whole idea of food research can sometimes be misleading, even in recent years wherein medical research and innovations have helped Americans to live longer and healthier lives. This gives people who are health-conscious a little bit of a dilemma. For example, a recent study about coffee is contrary to the statement I made above.  The study showed that for people who smoke and drink more alcohol, consume red meat, and don't exert efforts in doing some exercise, coffee was not able to help them.

One should bear in mind that other health factors should be set right before counting on any benefit that coffee, or any other food or drink, can bring.

In connection to this idea, scientists were very keen to point out that they weren't dissociating the effects of high HDL levels from lower instances of heart diseases. In simpler terms, the authors of this study said that one does not cause the other in whatever way. So, it can be deduced that high HDL levels can be indicative that other factors are protecting your heart. It is a subtle and sly difference but undeniably a very important one.

But enough of those other foods.  What can be said about the treats that have captured man's heart for ages now – every sweet and creamy chocolate? A recent study showed that eating chocolates can result in a lower body mass index. This would be a pleasant way of dieting for many people. But then again, this should be done in moderation; the extra calories chocolate provides can cause your metabolism to become overridden just by consuming it.

Where to draw the line?  I don't know about you, but I certainly do not need more complications in my life.  Just give me the chocolate!
