Warm days are the perfect time to indulge in icy treats on the back porch after you’ve called it a day at work. There’s something comforting about sitting around with family enjoying frozen treats. It never fails to wake up the kid in me and makes me remember my glory days running around with nothing to stress about. Ah, childhood memories!

A milkshake made with fresh milk and cream, dark chocolate chips, peppermint extract and chocolate fudge sauce make about as good as a dessert can get in my book. Even diabetics can tweak this recipe a little bit and enjoy this cold treat!

Mint Chocolate Rooibus

Rooibus (Rooibos) tea (pronounced roy-bos) means “red bush” in Afrikaans.  Rooibus is herbal, caffeine-free, and contains powerful antioxidants.  It is also lower in tannins than green or black tea.

Rooibus is grown only in a small area of South Africa.  It is slowly becoming more popular in the U.S. for the health conscious.

I recently bought a specialty Rooibus tea from a company called Christiani-Tea. I chose a flavor infused tea called Chocolate Mint.  The ingredients are organic Rooibus, organic cacao nibs, and organic peppermint leaf.  Added to those main flavor ingredients are apple and orange peel.

Mint Chocolate and Chocolate Mint

You say tah-may-toe, I say tah-mah-toe.  Some say mint chocolate, and some say chocolate mint.  Although often used interchangeably, there is a difference, technically speaking.

Mint chocolate is a variety of flavored chocolate, in this case, infused with mint flavoring.  It can be used as a coating or as a stand alone chocolate bar.  Since mint is added to dark, milk, and white chocolate, mint chocolate does not denote just one type of coating.  Mint can be peppermint or spearmint or crème de menthe.
