Brownie Carob Oatmeal Cookies Recipe

Have you tried cooking with carob?Chocolate Recipe CUO

We love chocolate, there's no hiding that.

But, we realize there are a few reasons that send people to the store in search of a replacement.

Carob... what on Earth is that?

Carob is chocolate's fraternal twin, or perhaps more like its step-sibling. It isn't really chocolate, but has a somewhat similar taste and texture.

Carob is sourced from the pod of a tree that grows along the Mediterranean. Inside the pod is a sweet pulp that is dried and ground into powder. Carob chips can also be used as an alternative to chocolate chips in recipes.

If you are particularly caffeine sensitive, carob may help, although chocolate doesn't typically contain enough caffeine to have much of an affect on people.

On the other hand, carob does not contain those good-for-you flavanols that have been shown to have numerous health benefits.

All in all, it's good to experiment and know your alternatives (just don't call the chocolate police on me!) 🙂

  • 1/4 cup carob powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
