Chocolate Beer Sandwich, Anyone?

Europe introduces yet another innovation, a new sandwich spread with the flavors of chocolate and beer combined. This interesting creation is known as “Birra Spalmabile”. The inventors suggest that it would be best on toast or used as a cake filling. You might get to thinking “Why on earth would I want my child’s cake to taste like beer?”

Two Italian companies, brewery Alta Quota and chocolate maker Napoleone, the ones responsible for creating this masterpiece, say that it can also be eaten with cheese or other appetizers.

This new chocolaty treat was launched at “the Salone del Gusto food fair in Turin, where chocolate maker Pietro Napoleone described it as 'like a sweet, beer-scented jelly',” reported italymagazine.com.

There are two kinds of this beer spread, the one having a lighter and more delicate flavor, while the other having stronger taste and bolder aroma to it, which brings us back to the question about your child’s cake. Yup! There is a “child-friendly” option.

It may come off as something different, but truth be told, this is not the first time in Italy, and in Europe, that someone has tried to make a non-liquid beer. However, the previous ones were not very successful since the combination of ingredients was not quite right.

Lifestyle website, selfridges.com, described the spread as “a sweet and beer-perfumed jelly with an intense scent and a full-bodied taste. The beer spread provides a unique accompaniment for hors d'oeuvres and cheeses, or even try spread on toast or as a stuffing or garnish for tarts and cakes.”

It’s now creating a major hype as it makes its way into the homes of people in Europe, and the creators are hoping for it to spread to other parts of the globe.
