Chocolate Recession?

Living in a third world country is not easy breezy. Most of the population has below average income and do not experience eating three full meals a day.  There are definitely no snacks in between!  I am no millionaire, but I have enough to feed myself and still go on and on, even if my stomach could no longer contain it. I just feel sorry for others who are unfortunate.

I have come to realize that not only poor countries suffer from economic problems. There is a saying that the more you soar high, the greater you fall. That is downright devastating.

For the giants of the world, such as Europe and United States, who seem to have all the best in the world, they are also the best targets for the recession that is happening right now. The ones that are affected within these countries are several industries of businesses and banks. Sad to say, my beloved chocolate manufacturers are not exempted. I just felt a tinge of pain in my heart right there.

The people in the industry share my sentiments. They are also fearing that the sweet tooth is fading. The father of chocolate, which is cocoa, is no longer doing great and is slowly declining.

It breaks my heart having to say all of this, but you all should know what problems we are currently facing. According to statistics, and yes I did my research on this, the amount of processed cocoa and the demand for chocolate dropped by about 18% which is equivalent to roughly 292,551 metric tons in just one year according to Brussels-based European Cocoa Association. This is by far the greatest decline in 12 years. The thought bubble in my mind right now is asking why? Why of all things, chocolate?

They say that there is poor economic growth in the European region which poses a problem for the association of Swiss Chocolate Manufacturers. There is a negative impact on the exporting status.  How long this will last is tremendously hard to guess.

I, for one, consider chocolate as the mightiest of all foodstuff, and it is considered as a luxury in low cost. That is why even the average people get to taste these delectable treats. Let us not take that away from them. Do not take it away from me!

People are likely eating LESS chocolate, but they are eating better quality chocolate. So quantity related to consumption may be down, but I think more people are looking for high quality dark chocolate with health benefits vs eating sugary “chocolate” candy.
