Cocoa Roast Almonds – Dark Chocolate

It’s great news that Almonds are a good source of vitamin E, protein and high levels of heart healthy unsaturated fatty acids.

It’s even better news (to a chocolate lover like me, at least) that almonds dusted in dark cocoa powder provide even more cardiovascular benefits! And they taste terrific too!

Emerald brand nut snacks makes a variety of flavored almonds such as raspberry, honey, cinnamon, vanilla and cocoa roast. So far, I enjoy the Emerald Nut Snacks Cocoa Roast Almonds – Dark Chocolate the most. To be fair, I haven’t tried every flavor, but look forward to comparing the lot of ‘em! No downside, right?

The almonds are crunchy, slightly salty, and roasted to perfection. The cocoa powder coating is slightly sweet, chocolatey with a hint of coffee.

The cocoa is a dark brown color because it was alkalized or “dutch processed.” Alkalized cocoa does strip some of the chocolate flavor as a result of darkening the color, but you don’t notice that among all the other texture and aromatic sensations you encounter while eating these almonds.

I do notice an alternative sweetener after-taste (made with sucralose and ace-K), but that is the only negative in an otherwise pleasurable tasting experience.

OK, Maybe there is one other negative... I can’t stop eating them!
