Divine Dark Chocolate with Ginger and Orange

Recently, I was given a Divine Dark Chocolate with Ginger and Orange bar as a thank-you gift. I enjoy this brand of chocolate, but never tasted this particular variety before.

The chocolate is 70% Ghanaian and, true to every Divine bar I’ve ever had, it is superb.

Chocolate, Ginger, and Orange

Divine Chocolate - 70% Dark Chocolate with Ginger and OrangeThe cocoa notes are bold and rich, with strong nutty and subtle earthy flavors. There’s a hint of spice and dried fruit that is typical of chocolate from Ghana.

The orange and ginger flavors blend very well with the strong chocolate profile, but I found the texture of the ginger pieces annoying.

I didn’t care for the fact that I continued to chew the ginger long after the chocolate disappeared. And it took a long time to get those sticky ginger pieces out of my teeth!

There's More to Ginger

Speaking of ginger, I looked up its health benefits, hoping that suffering through the glue-like ginger would at least prove nutritionally beneficial. What I found was good news.

The use of ginger for medicinal purposes has been around a long time. The phenolic compounds are known to help relieve nausea and general stomach discomfort.

It is an anti-inflammatory. Studies have shown eating ginger reduces colon inflammation and increases colon health.

Ginger also has numerous antioxidant compounds.

But This Bar?

I’m on the fence about buying this particular bar again. While I enjoyed the overall flavor, the ginger bits were really bothersome.

That said, the flavor combination of orange, chocolate, and ginger was really delicious.

Yeah, okay, I’ll try it again. I’m all about second chances!
