Chocolate Coated Marshmallow Truffles Recipe

Camping season is nigh upon us! For those of you who can't stand the unfortunate bug-gy aspect of camping, this cool spring weather may be your perfect match. Just like these ooey gooey chocolate coated marshmallow truffles are your new perfect match.

I'm not insinuating that you're really an ooey gooey marshmallow-y mess within, no - quite the opposite - you've got it all together, my friend.

[Make having it all together possible with a little deep breathing, concentrated meditation, and these delicious truffles]. Say it with me, "Ommm, I am in a beautiful wood. Relaxed. Happy. With my chocolate truffles. Ommm..." It's that easy. 😉

Every summer, millions of Americans venture out of doors, leaving the stress of everyday life behind to get in some one-on-one time with mother nature.

A few important dates in camping history:

1861 - Gunnery Camp was founded in Washington, Connecticut, by Frederick Gunn, owner of a boys' school. Gunn took his wards on a two-week long trip, where they'd hike to a specific wilderness area and then set up camp. Activities around the camp included hiking, fishing, observing nature, and of course, cooking over a smoky fire.

1911 - The first Boy Scout Handbook was published, and depicts many different types of tents for camping.

1919 - The nation's first camping club, Tin Can Tourists, was founded in Florida. They got their name for the soldered tin can on their radiator caps. This club still exists today.

1927 - The first official recipe for s'mores appeared in a Girl Scouts manual - "Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts".

1942 - The U.S. Army issued purposefully-designed slumber bags. Heavy and bulky, these are eventually replaced with down-filled bags. Source: ReserveAmerica.com article by Jeff Adams.

Camping has evolved into a fun and popular vacation pastime. Try out this recipe for chocolate and marshmallow truffles and feel like you're camping all year long. 🙂

Easy Chocolate Coated Marshmallow Truffles

  • 10 ounces marshmallows
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Coconut, crushed graham crackers, or other small candies
  • Decorative candies

Arrange marshmallows on a cookie sheet or jelly roll pan, then freeze for 15 minutes.

Microwave chocolate chips on high for 2 1/2 minutes or until smooth, stirring every minute. Using a skewer or fondue fork, dip each frozen marshmallow into the melted chocolate until each marshmallow is completely coated.

Roll in coconut or other toppings. Use another fork or metal spatula to place marshmallows onto waxed paper lined cookie sheet or jelly roll pan. Chill, or keep in cool dry place.

Enjoy! 🙂
