Ghirardelli Intense Dark Mango Sunset Bar

I’m a fan of mango, and of course I’m an UBER fan of chocolate...
So when I saw the pairing in a Ghirardelli Intense Dark Mango Sunset chocolate bar, I was looking forward to heavenly bliss. They already had me by "Mango Sunset" (come now, Mango Sunset? I can’t be the only one that imagines myself on a tropical beach when reading that, right?)
I opened the wrapper, and the aroma was indeed heavenly. Unfortunately, that’s as close to heaven as I got because after tasting it, the flavor delivery did not meet my grand expectations!
Perhaps I let myself down, allowing my anticipation to get out of hand. Then again, there are things that smell better than they taste. And there are times when advertising makes something sound so much better than it is.
I can’t find any physical fault with this bar. It is smooth. The chocolate is dark and rich, and the mango is, well, mango-y. Still, the pairing falls flat for me. That’s my own opinion, of course, and others will undoubtedly feel very differently. And that’s Okay!
Tasting chocolate, learning what you like and what you don’t like is a fantastic adventure and worth the journey. There’s no down side.
