Green & Black’s 85% Dark Chocolate

The story goes that in 1991, the founder of Whole Earth, Craig Sams, was eating a 70% dark chocolate bar sent to him as a sample. This bar was made from organic cocoa beans.

He only ate half of the chocolate and left the rest sit on his desk. A short time later, his wife, Jo, saw the chocolate bar and helped herself. She loved it, and thus began the making of their organic chocolates.

According to their website, the “Green” in Green & Black’s symbolizes their organic principles and “Black” symbolizes the intensity of the chocolate.

green and black's 85%I have tasted many 85% dark chocolate bars over the years. You can read about some of them in my previous blog posts.

I rank Green & Blacks among the best of them.

Simply by being an 85 percent it packs an intense impact of cocoa notes, but in addition you’ll find pleasant nutty and earthy notes along with a delicious vanilla finish.

I also detect a light spice and dried fruit throughout the entire experience. Of course, it is smooth and melts slowly and evenly in the mouth like a quality chocolate should.

I used to say that a 70% chocolate was my “everyday chocolate”. I could eat it every day and not get sick of it.

Since then, I have switched to 85% as my every day chocolate. I find myself enjoying, and even craving, the higher impact chocolate and all the complex natural flavors that come with it.

Maybe it’s because I’m getting older, but I’d like to think it’s because I’m getting wiser! Wiser in choosing excellently flavored chocolate.

Enjoy!
