Hershey’s Syrup With A Sprinkle of Violation

Just like everyone else, I go through the toughest of days. I wake up in the morning with my head feeling heavy, and I become as lazy as can be. I encounter all kinds of mishaps all in one day. During those days, I almost think that when God showered the world with bad luck, I was there unknowingly waiting with arms wide open.

Still, I always find a light at the end of the deepest tunnel. Somewhat of a superhero who is ready to rescue me when I am pleading for help. To cut the chase and the poetry lines, a girl like me succumb with sadness and depression only resorts to one thing. And that one thing that effectively fights my battles for me is chocolate.

It may be impossible and almost that of fairy tales, but ask a number of girls out there and I bet you my life’s savings that they run to pleasing their sweet tooth with chocolates whenever they have a bad day. I cannot fully explain that connection we have with these delights. They are powerful enough to take our sorrows away.

The freezing chocolate ice cream in a cup with marshmallow toppings, the warm chocolate cake with rainbow sprinkles, and the tastiest chocolate cookies smothered with chocolate syrup that hardens in a matter of seconds. Give me a minute to wipe off my drooling face... There, I’m done.

Hershey's Syrup +Calcium

Speaking of chocolate syrup, it is one of the most favorite add-ons we put to our already mouthwatering desserts. The syrup definitely puts smiles on our faces. But what happens if the tables have turned?

A sad breaking news story says that Hershey Co has violated labelling laws. They received a warning letter from the FDA dated February 14, but just recently made public, regarding their Hershey's Syrup+Calcium and their Syrup Sugar Free with Vitamin & Mineral Fortification.

It turns out that these nutritional claims do not actually fall within regulatory guidelines. As stated by the FDA, for the terms to be used in a food label, the amount of vitamins and minerals should be equivalent to at least 10 percent of the reference daily intake, or meet other criteria that Hershey's syrups failed to pass.

A spokesperson from Hershey said that the company settled the matter already. Their use of the terms “plus” was changed to Syrup with Calcium rather than Syrup+Calcium and the word “fortification” has also been removed.

Just imagine the horror it would be for us not to enjoy that yummy chocolate syrup anymore. Thankfully, Hershey resolved the issue even before the entire human race got wrapped up in the havoc!
