KFC Tests Edible Chocolate Coffee Cups

It seems the UK is where innovation is really happening for the regular folk. It's one thing to be excited about the newest iPhone, but I'd be equally excited to start purchasing coffee if it came in an edible chocolate-lined cookie cup!

Keep up the ingenuity over there, and feel free to pass along some ideas across the pond to, say, Starbucks.

It's true, edible coffee cups are being tested out in hopes of using them to celebrate the launch of Seattle's Best Coffee (a Starbucks brand) at KFC restaurants in the U.K. The company sought out a creative way to mark this event, and thus linked up with the renowned food scientists over at The Robin Collective, to form a unique marketing campaign.

The result, an edible white chocolate-lined sweet biscuit cup wrapped in sugar paper. The sugar paper is made to look like a traditional cup, with KFC's and Seattle's Best Coffee's logos donned on the sides. The white chocolate lining is said to be heat-resistant, helping to keep the biscuit from melting. They are being called the "Scoff-ee Cup".

The Robin Collective put a little more thought into the taste and smell of the edible cups. The sweet treats are also infused with a selection of subtle scents that complement the coffee experience and have been proven to improve people's moods.

Brandy Wright of The Robin Collective said, "Not only do the edible cups taste amazing but they smell delicious too. We've infused different cups with a variety of ambient aromas including coconut sun cream, freshly cut grass and wild flowers." Source: DailyMail.co.uk

The edible cups are currently a test, and not available for customers to purchase yet. The companies are working to explore what would need to be done to make these feasible at a larger scale. Sadly, as of this writing, there are no plans for the cups to be introduced here in the United States.
