Kind Healthy Grains – Popped Dark Chocolate

These Kind Healthy Grains granola bars are certainly different. They contain some grains you don’t normally see in the mainstream granola snack world. For example, they have sorghum, millet, amaranth, quinoa, and buckwheat.

The packaging declares “healthy grains” and “do the kind thing for your body,” so you do feel good as you're getting ready to eat this.

After reading all the box had to offer, my expectations were high, not only for the healthy nature of this bar, but also for the “popped” texture. The packaging states that they “…worked tirelessly to reach this perfect texture, a unique combination of chewy and crunchy…”

My Thoughts...

How did all this hype measure up? Not too bad, but not stellar either. The texture is weird, more chewy than crunchy. It's probably just me, but the sensation reminds me of damp popcorn in my mouth.

The millet ingredient is a small seed with a slight crunch. I like that because it gives a texture break from the chewiness. It reminds me of chia.

The overall taste is flavorful, but unfortunately, the dark chocolate is rather under-whelming and the saltiness does not give the chocolate a “pop” as I would have expected.

Having eaten the standard Kind bars, I can say that I like those better than the Healthy Grains bars. If someone handed me a Healthy Grains bar, I would eat it, but I wouldn’t buy them again.

On the positive side, I’ve learned something about myself. I don’t care for chewy when crunchy is offered!
