Lakefront Brewery Double Chocolate Stout

Everything I’ve read about the craft beer boom in Milwaukee intrigues me. I’ve lived in the area since graduating from college. At that time, all I knew (and everyone else in the United States) was Milwaukee meant Miller. Boy have things changed! Craft breweries have been popping up fast over the past couple of years.

The reason I have to talk about craft beer is that there are so many dark beers with incredible “chocolate” notes. As a chocolate lover, I really appreciate the complexity of flavors from these brews. I’ve been tasting chocolate stouts for a while now, and I’m starting to learn what flavor profiles I like.

Milwaukee’s Lakefront Brewery "My Turn" Series

Milwaukee’s Lakefront Brewery makes a limited edition in their My Turn series that is absolutely chocolatey and delicious.

Latif - Double Chocolate StoutOn their website, www.lakefrontbrewery.com, they give some background for this one-of-a-kind Double Chocolate Stout called My Turn: Latif.

It doesn't seem right to paraphrase, so here's a direct quote:

“This beer was brewed by Latif. Latif is our shipping coordinator, so you can thank him for getting this very beer into your hands. And, you can thank him for the delicious, sweet chocolate flavor. Dark in color, well-bodied but smooth, this beer has a nice blend of roasted malts and chocolate. This Double Chocolate Stout is not only sweet and brewed to cellar, it’s also organic. But what else would you expect from such a wholesome guy?

"The roasty and chocolatey flavors in My Turn: Latif make it perfect for turkey or tofu and sweet potato enchiladas with a not-too-spicy mole sauce. Or, do what Latif would do, and go right to dessert with a generous chunk of 80% cacao dark chocolate or a slice of cinnamon coffee cake.”

That description is not just marketing fluff, it's spot on. This beer is smooth, deeply chocolate, and I think slightly nutty, with a long chocolate finish. I agree wholeheartedly with Latif -- dark chocolate with this beer is a wonderful pairing!

The only downside to this beer is that after you fall in love, it retires and disappears. Hurry, and enjoy it while it lasts!
