Ritter Sport Espresso Milk Chocolate Bar

My blog post from May 23, 2016 highlights the delightful chocolate flavors of a dark chocolate Ritter Sport bar from Germany.

I mention this because I have yet another Ritter Sport chocolate review. This is another bar given to me by my mother after her visit to Ritter Sport ChocoWorld in Berlin.

How Does This Espresso Bar Taste?

The Ritter Sport Espresso Milk Chocolate has a very bold, but not over-the-top, coffee flavor. The coffee flavored center comes from dark-roasted Arabica beans.

The milky and chocolatey notes try to develop an impact against the coffee, but the three flavors are not equally represented. The chocolate fades away fast, but at the end you taste coffee with a hint of cream. Not a bad finish!

Because this espresso bar is made with milk chocolate, instead of dark, it’s on the sweet side.

If I compare this bar to my preferred chocolate and coffee combination (dark chocolate and roasted bits of coffee beans as in this post or this other post), this bar falls a bit short in the flavor department.

Due to the extra sweetness level and the milk, the cocoa notes get diluted, and the coffee over powers the overall flavor profile.

Since coffee is such a strong flavor in any chocolate bar, a dark chocolate the best chance to match the richness, bitterness, and roasted notes of espresso flavors.

However, if I consider this bar by itself, and stop the comparisons (oh so hard to do!), I feel confident that the Ritter Sport Espresso Milk chocolate bar deserves a high rating

I know that if someone likes milk chocolate and coffee flavors together, they will very much enjoy this choice.

I have come across you article about the Ritter Sports Espresso Chocolates. My boyfriend was stationed in Germany b for a couple weeks before going somewhere else. He, being a chocolate and coffee lover had gotten his hands on these delicious treats. However after learning Ritter sells in US stores we have searched for the espresso flavor yet can’t find any. I clicked your link to Amazon and them too are currently unavailable. I have gone as far as Ebay and Ritter Sport website themselves and have concluded they no longed produce this deliciousness. I was hoping you could help by maybe finding a substitution equal to it. I saw you enjoy chocolate, can you help some fellow chocolovers?

Oh no, that’s bad news about the Ritter Sport Espresso Milk Chocolate bar. It sounds very special to you both. Unfortunately, all my recommendations would be dark chocolate with coffee/espresso and not milk chocolate. If you decide you’d like to try it in dark chocolate, go to the Chocolate University Online blog page and do a search using the key work “coffee”. These are chocolates I’ve reviewed and would recommend you try! Good Luck to you both.
