Before I give you the recipe, here's a fun fact for ya. If you have been a loyal reader, you may have already heard about this from me some time back. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, did you know that chocolate had something to do with the invention of the microwave oven?

An American scientist by the name of Percy Spencer was working on what is known as the magnetron for radar sets. Allegedly, he walked by a cavity magnetron while it was at work then felt some heat and realized that a chocolate bar that he had been carrying in his pocket had melted into a sticky mess.

Chocolate and The Invention of Microwave

Chocolate accidentally paved way for the invention of the microwave oven. Scientists during the World War II were primarily experimenting with microwaves wanting to come up with better radar detector. What really happened? Read on.

Radar was primarily used as a military weapon, but it was utilized in other fields as well such as air and sea travel, weather forecasting, among many others. The war was starting to cool off in 1945, but radar work was continuing to be hot stuff.

Mug of Chocolate Cake

A couple nights ago my teenage daughter had a craving for chocolate cake.  Although this sounded good to me too, we had one big obstacle in our way--no working oven.  Our oven called it quits one week earlier and we had not replaced it yet. 

The next day, with chocolate cake still on my mind, I looked up dessert recipes for the crock pot, microwave, grill, Nesco Roaster, anything that did not require baking it in an oven.  To my surprise, I found A LOT of recipes out there using alternate cooking devices.

Eventually, I found a recipe for a one-minute microwaveable chocolate cake in a mug.
