Mars Inc – Chocolate Factory Coming to India

Current U.S.-based chocolate manufacturer Mars Inc, the third largest confectionery business globally, says plans for the company to add another global manufacturing plant are underway.

Mars Inc just recently announced their intention to open a new plant in India.

Mars Inc, a worldwide chocolate manufacturing giant, intends for the ever-popular Snickers and Galaxy bars to be made there, in order to meet the country's growing demands. Essentially, they hope to reduce India's dependence on imports by doing this.

Depending on how everything goes, Mars bars, and Twix will also be manufactured at the India plant.

On March 16, 2015, Mars International India, a subsidiary of Mars Inc, signed a memorandum of understanding with the Maharashtra government in Mumbai for a $160 million plant to be built in the next year and a half in Pune.

The business plan for this addition is designed to deliver both quality products to the consumer, and positively impact the community by providing local employment opportunities, and community engagement programs. The project alone is expected to generate direct employment opportunities for over 200 people.

“This initiative reiterates our continued commitment to India. The chocolate industry in India is growing at nearly 20% every year and we see this as a huge opportunity to expand our chocolate portfolio in the country in the coming years. Pune is an investor friendly and progressive city and we are delighted to deepen our commitment to India with our investment..." said MV Natarajan, General Manager, Mars International India.
