Easy Dark Chocolate Sorbet Recipe

Are you looking for your next favorite dessert? Well, today is your lucky day! This dark chocolate sorbet recipe may quickly become your new favorite dessert. What’s amazing is that you can easily transform it into many different flavors just by adding a few extra ingredients. Plus, it can be vegan, keto, or gluten-free!

This recipe contains no eggs or dairy, but it’s still surprisingly very creamy! Moreover, it won’t go super hard or icy in the freezer. So, it’s the perfect pick me up dessert on one those hot days or whenever you feel like having it.

Is it ice cream? No, it’s not! Ice cream contains a lot of fat and that creamy fat keeps the ice cream from freezing hard. Sorbets, on the other hand, starts with a base of fruit puree or fruit juice, wine, alcohol, or chocolate syrup. And since sorbets don’t have dairy, the chocolate flavor in this recipe takes the center stage for a more intense flavor.

This dark chocolate sorbet is very easy to make if you have an ice cream maker. But if you don’t have one, there is always another way! However, if you are planning to serve this on a party, keep in mind that you will have to freeze it for a few hours so it’s best to prepare it ahead of time.

Dark Chocolate Sorbet Recipe

What you need:

  • 1 cup of your chosen sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • ¾ cup high-quality cocoa powder
  • 50g finely chopped quality dark chocolate bar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons espresso powder (optional, for enhanced flavor)
  • 2 tablespoon vodka or rum (optional)

What to do:

Over medium heat, combine the sugar, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, salt, and water in a saucepan. Then, stir thoroughly and bring the mixture in a boil until all ingredients are completely dissolved.

Remove from heat, then stir in the vanilla extract, espresso powder, and vodka. Then, transfer into the bowl and let it cool.

Freeze it overnight until completely chilled. Then add to your ice cream maker, following the manufacturer’s instructions. It may still be a bit soft, so freeze it for 1 more hour or until firm.

If you don’t have an ice cream maker, freeze the mixture in your freezer and stir every 30 minutes until it’s smooth and frozen. Then, leave overnight to freeze.

Before serving, transfer the frozen mixture to the bottom of your fridge for at least 30 minutes for easy scooping. Then, scoop into a bowl or an ice cream cone.

Lastly, top it off with chocolate syrup or coconut shavings! This dark chocolate sorbet can last in the freezer for at least a month. But I think we all know it will easily disappear before that. *wink*

Tip: Experiment with different flavors! Simply replace the vanilla extract with some peppermint essence, orange zest, cinnamon, or mint.

What do you think? Pretty easy, right? I’m sure your family and guests will love this dark chocolate sorbet recipe! And, what’s perfect is you can always do this on different occasions and share with friends.
