Labooko Nicaragua 50% Milk Chocolate

Zotter Chocolate, www.zotterusa.com, might be on to something...

In 2012, the Labooko Nicaragua 50% Milk Chocolate bar was rated the “best milk chocolate in the world”! Professional taste tester and author, Georg Bernardini, tasted over 2,700 chocolates doing research for his book “Der Schokoladentester” (“The Chocolate Tester”) and declared this to be so. Aunt Belle’s Bear Paws

Aunt Belle's Confectionary, LLC has two stores in northern Minnesota, and I just found one of them in Walker, MN.

Walker is a small town with a main street that looks and feels like a trip back in time.  Aunt Belle's boasts old fashioned homemade candies and fudge.  According to their website, you'll step into their store and feel like a kid again.  I did feel giddy like a kid in a candy store (pun intended) and picked out all the goodies I thought I'd enjoy; chocolate dipped brittle, chocolate covered potato chips, chocolate covered nut clusters, and chocolate fudge.

While they had several different types of nut clusters such as the traditional turtle, I chose one of the variations called the Bear Paw.

New Tree Dark Milk

New Tree chocolate company began in 2001, with a mission to “combine gastronomy, innovation and well-being” with a quality chocolate product.

As I write this, I am thoroughly enjoying my New Tree Dark Milk (51% cocoa).  This bar not only tastes great but it is nutritionally beneficial.  Made from Belgium chocolate, the rich, nutty notes in the bold chocolate, along with lively vanilla and creamy milk flavors all come together to make a smooth and tasty chocolate.

According to their website, www.newtree.com, they draw their inspiration “from nature to create innovative chocolates with surprising flavors and health benefits.”

My first choice was a mid-range dark, 60% cacao solids, sourced from Ghana.  I knew that the Pinot Grigio was on the dry side and I was curious to see if the fruity notes in the chocolate would complement the wine.
