Lily’s Salted Almond and Milk

A couple of years ago I reviewed the Lily’s 55% chocolate bar sweetened with stevia. Ever conscientious of lowering my sugar intake, and because it’s been a while, I grabbed another Lily bar when I was out shopping. Lily’s Dark Chocolate – Stevia Sweetened

The Lily’s dark chocolate bar I’ve chosen for this review is a 55%, non-GMO, stevia sweetened chocolate.

This is my first taste of chocolate sweetened with stevia. Overall, I’m impressed. I was skeptical before I took my first bite because I’ve lived through the experimental years when the food industry started using artificial and alternative sweeteners in foods. Read more

Chocolate Raspberry Drink with Stevia

I recently attended an outdoor BBQ and at the “drink station” was a pitcher of ice water with an assortment of small bottles sitting next to it.  Each bottle had a dropper style lid and inside was flavored liquid sweetened with stevia.  The host encouraged me to create my own sugar-free beverage.

I was intrigued, of course, and poured myself a glass of water.  Then, as instructed, put 6 to 8 drops of liquid flavoring into my glass.  This was a starting point as more can be added according to individual preference.

Chocolate Goes No Sugar Added

Hot off the press!  Chocolate maker, Barry Callebaut, claims to be the first to manufacture a “no added sugar” chocolate on an industrial scale.  They use a solution made from Stevia plant extract which is between 100 and 400 times the sweetness of sugar with zero calories.

Stevia extract contains no artificial intense sweeteners and does not induce a laxative side-effect (there's good news!).  The product is still in the approval stages in some countries, and in the US it is currently has GRAS status for food applications.  (GRAS means Generally Recognized As Safe.)
