Brookside Dark Chocolate Goji & Raspberry

The Easter Bunny was very generous to me this season.

As the Easter Bunny walked through her warehouse of candy treats (which looked an awful like the neighbor market), rows and rows of sweets began to call me. I mean images of Bryn spring to her mind and she thought, "yes, Bryn would surely love to try this," and, "this is just perfect for Bryn," and, "hey, this is new, I bet Bryn would find this interesting!"

One of the surprises that landed in my basket was Brookside’s Dark Chocolate Goji & Raspberry Flavors Candy. This is not a new item, but it's something I hadn’t had before.

According to their website, “Brookside Farms began in 1954 in British Columbia's beautiful Fraser Valley.” They produce soft, chewy fruit flavored centers from a variety of classic and unique fruit combinations covered in a dark chocolate coating.

Goji BerriesThe goji berry is also called wolfberry. It is a bright orangish-redish berry that grows on a shrub native to China. In most of Asia, goji berries are eaten for longevity.

Are goji berries good for you? Perhaps. They are rich in nutrients and some studies have shown that the juice may have benefits for mental well-being, calmness and a good night’s sleep. Is the Easter Bunny trying to tell me something?

The Brookside candy centers are made from the juice of the goji berry along with raspberry, apple, and lemon.

The chocolate coating is a dark chocolate of unknown percentage. The pieces are perfectly bite sized and way too convenient to eat!

I can’t say I’m addicted to them, but a handful goes down too fast, and I’m left wondering if I should have more. I guess this could be a good thing because they are quite tasty, but on the other hand, I’m left unsatisfied after what I consider an appropriate amount.

Overall, I enjoy eating these. The centers are both sweet and tart, and I like the chewy texture. The chocolate doesn’t disappear right away so the cocoa flavors and the fruit flavors get to mingle for a long time in the mouth. The chocolate is not as bold as I would like it, but neither is it bitter or overly sweet.

That Easter Bunny really does know what I like!

Here is more information about Brookside Chocolate. The website is informational and does not sell their chocolates.

I paid The Easter Bunny paid $4.29 for 7 oz. bag in our local grocery store. It's more at Amazon for a single bag, but convenient. If you want bulk you can get good deals at Amazon. Here's a 4-pack (28-oz total) for $12.92, and a 32-oz package for $14.99.
