Goodnessknows Very Cranberry Snack Squares

I picked up a package of goodnessknows® Very Cranberry snack squares at my local Sam’s Club.
Not only did the photo of the squares entice me (dried cranberries, whole almonds, dark chocolate!), but what really captured my attention was the “100 mg of Cocoa Flavanols per serving”.
Flavanols are good for you!
Each goodnessknows snack square has a dark chocolate coating to promote health benefits through cocoa flavanols.
Flavanols are antioxidants found in fruits such as grapes, cherries, blueberries and in teas and chocolate/cocoa. Today, science is making great advancements in discovering what these compounds can do for our health.
What can flavanols do for you?
Flavanols contain nitric oxide, and nitric oxide helps maintain flexible blood vessels. Healthy, flexible blood vessels move oxygen and nutrients more easily to organs and tissues, improving cardiac efficiency.

Mars, Inc. launched the goodnessknows snack squares in 2010. The snack comes in four squares of dried fruit and whole nuts with a bottom layer of dark chocolate.
You probably know Mars, Inc. by their brands; M&Ms, Snickers, Milky Way and Twix. They’ve been in the chocolate and confectionery business for more than 100 years.
According to the www.mars.com website, Mars is “committed to promoting and facilitating long term scientific research and innovation to address the challenges faced by the food industry…” They have a research facility in Bahia, Brazil called the Mars Center for Cocoa Science.
I enjoyed this snack bar very much. The almond and dried cranberry together with the dark chocolate make a healthy snack taste like dessert!
The dark chocolate is rich enough to notice, in spite of having strong nutty and berry notes in the mix. The bar is not overly sweet, and the roasted cocoa after-taste is extremely pleasant.
Okay, only 150 calories and 100 mg of good-for-your-heart cocoa flavanols in each pack (4 bit sized squares).
I think I'm going to have to come up with a rating system to help classify all of these reviewed products. Until I do, you'll have to be satisfied that I enjoyed and recommend this chocolatey and nutty snack.
If you want to get your hands on some of these, here's a box of 18 bars from Amazon. These might make good stocking stuffers at Christmas.
