Lindt Dark Chocolate with Pieces of Lychee

Lindt has so many varieties it’s hard for me to keep up. Just when I think I’ve tried them all, a new one comes along.

Dark Chocolate with Lychee is part of the Lindt EXCELLENCE Exotic Fruits Collection. In addition to Lychee, there are Pomegranate and Blueberry Acai.

Lychee fruit grows from an evergreen tree and can be red or soft orange with a rough or bumpy skin. Contained inside each fruit there is a white flesh with a single, large seed.

The fruit is juicy and has a unique fragrance and flavor. Some people describe the flavor as a combination of strawberries, grapes, and watermelon all at once!

There are some health benefits from eating Lychee. It is high in dietary fiber and rich in oligonol, which is a strong antioxidant. Lychee is a good source of vitamin C and contains high levels of B vitamins.

My Thoughts About This Chocolate Bar

Lindt Excellence Dark Chocolate with LycheeWhen I first opened the Lindt chocolate bar with lychee, I immediately noticed aromas of strawberry and grape. Actually, it’s not just grape, it’s more like wine because a fermented aroma is very obvious.

It also smells slightly floral and of course, chocolatey and sweet.

The chocolate and lychee together taste a lot like chocolate-covered strawberries, especially at the beginning. However, the longer it’s in your mouth, the more you taste other flavors that are difficult to name.

There is a tartness to it, and even a similarity to juicy fruit gum! The cocoa notes are nutty and soft, blending well with the sweet fruit. The texture is chewy from the fruit pieces, and the chocolate melts very fast around it.

Because the chocolate bar is very sweet and not as “dark” as I like it (there is only 47% cacao), I’m not real fussy for it. That said, I like the lychee because it has an interesting and delightful flavor.

I would not go out of my way to buy it again, but I can enjoy the rest of the bar shared among friends.

(If this lychee bar sounds good to you, here's an option from Amazon.)
