44% Cacao Dark Chocolate Stracciatella

Kroger’s chain of grocery stores has a line of store brand products, Private Selection™, that includes Swiss chocolate bars. I took one home recently, a 44% Cacao Dark Chocolate Stracciatella.
In case you’re not familiar with Stracciatella, it’s an Italian gelato flavor that consists of tiny shavings of chocolate mixed into vanilla ice cream.
Sorry, there is no gelato in this bar! But it does try to capture the classic flavor within it’s filling. The chocolate coating is a “dark milk”. There are also ground hazelnuts and specks of cocoa nibs in the filling.
This bar is very buttery, milky, nutty (hazelnut), creamy, and chocolatey. I especially love the finish and aftertaste. At the finish, there is a lovely, delicate caramel flavor with notes of honey and vanilla. The aftertaste is a pleasant and lingering nutty chocolate.
The overall texture is soft. There is the soft center filling, and the chocolate coating melts quickly so flavor delivery is fast. There is an excellent crunch from the ground hazelnuts and nibs. Great texture!
For being an extreme dark chocolate lover (percentages of 80 and higher), I really liked this 44% Stracciatella. I appreciated the many flavors and how they blended so well together that it wasn’t overly sweet.
Hmm. Now I’ll have to try Stacciatella in gelato form. Otherwise how would I know that they really captured it in this bar? Ah, my research never ends!
