Alter Eco Super Blackout

Alter Eco offers a variety of chocolate snacks, chocolate bars, and chocolate truffles. According their website, www.alterecofoods.com, they work with their cacao partner, Acopagro Co-op in Peru to conserve the Amazon rain forest by replanting. They intend to boost biodiversity, improve the co-op’s food security with crop diversity, and provide a retirement plan for farmers by creating a sustainable forestry of mature trees.
Alter Eco is one of my top go-to chocolate bar crafters, especially the really dark bars like Blackout (85%) and Super Blackout (90%).
Super Blackout is made from a single origin Ecuadoran cacao and contains only four ingredients: organic cacao beans, organic cocoa butter, organic raw cane sugar, and organic vanilla beans (Madagascar vanilla).
The chocolate flavors are bold, smooth and fruity. Deep cocoa notes are followed by intense fruit flavors of ripe berries and dried cherry. The next set of flavors are layers of earthy, nutty, and vanilla notes. There’s a touch of tobacco and ash toward the end. And at the finish, it’s nicely astringent with a pleasant and lingering chocolate aftertaste.
The Alter Eco packaging refers to this chocolate bar as one that “packs all the intensity of the darkest dark bar with the smooth, creamy bite chocolate lover craves”. I agree wholeheartedly! ‘Nough said.
