Mary Jane’s Chocolates – Dark Chocolate Cherries

“Cave to the Crave!” is the slogan for Mary Jane’s Chocolates in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Last week, I introduced a Kentucky chocolatier, Chaser’s Chocolates, and their Bourbon Balls. This week, I have another Kentucky chocolatier, Mary Jane’s Chocolates, to introduce.
While Chaser’s was more gift shop than chocolates shop, Mary Jane’s is 100% chocolates.
According to Mary Jane's website, Mary Jane and her daughter had a passion for making chocolate when creating boxes as Christmas gifts for their family and friends.
After moving to Bowling Green, Kentucky, they noticed a lack of local chocolate shops and began to dream of starting their own chocolates business there. In 2010, Mary Jane opened her first shop.
When I visited Mary Jane’s shop, the delicious smell of chocolates on display greeted me as I walked in.
Dark Chocolate Cherries
I purchased a bag of dark chocolate covered dried cherries because, as their slogan encourages, I caved to my current craving (and I simultaneously went from Mammoth Cave to this craving, so no matter how you look at the slogan, it's right on)!
I was not disappointed.
The dried cherries were surrounded by an extra thick layer of intense, rich dark chocolate. The chocolate was smooth and melted in my mouth quickly, leaving me to chew on the tart cherries until the end.
The cherries, oooh, the cherries. They were slightly sweet but mostly nice and tart with a soft yet firm texture. The combination was absolutely wonderful.
By the way, there's a bonus. Sweet cherries are rich in nutritional benefits. They are high in beta carotene and vitamin C. They are loaded with potassium which has a natural way of reducing blood-pressure.
Cherries can lower uric acid levels by 15% and reduce C-reactive protein (which is an indicator of inflammation that can lead to cardiac issues).
Eating dark chocolate covered cherries is part of my future! My delicious, healthy future.
