Chocolove – Coffee Crunch in Dark Chocolate

Chocolove chocolate company is based out of Boulder, Colorado and, according to their website, www.chocolove.com, their bars are made in small batches “…delivering a little bit of 'chocolate–love' to discerning chocolate lovers everywhere.”

Over the years I’ve reviewed a few of the Chocolove flavors. I have a long way to go until I’ve tried all of them. They make 30 different varieties from creamy milk chocolates to a range of dark chocolates, and even an extreme dark with 88% cocoa content. It doesn’t matter the flavor, each chocolate bar is wrapped in a love letter with a poem.

I’ll focus on just one today, the 55% Coffee Crunch in Dark Chocolate...

Tasting the Dark Chocolate Coffee Crunch

Chocolove Coffee Crunch in Dark ChocolateThis bar has, unsuprisingly, an intense coffee aroma and flavor. There are also aromas of coconut and leather. The coffee flavor is mingled with chocolate notes and perhaps a little coconut toward the end.

The bits of coffee beans have a nice roasted flavor, and this adds a nice crunch along the way. For the most part, the coffee overpowers the chocolate. That’s okay because it reminds me of drinking a hot mocha where the coffee is the predominant flavor, but you definitely know there’s chocolate! At the very end, I’m still chewing the coffee beans after the chocolate is melted so the finish has a pleasant coffee aftertaste.

It’s worth noting that one square of this chocolate bar has the equivalent of 1/6th the caffeine of a cup of coffee, that's roughly translating to 16 mg of caffeine. When I ate the Chocolove Coffee Crunch while drinking my afternoon decaf coffee, I could feel the caffeine. Of course, I had more than one square!

Here's a single bar from Amazon. Multiple bar packs are also available.
