Divine’s Seriously Smooth Milk Chocolate

You’ve heard me talk about Divine Chocolate before. It’s one of my favorite chocolate companies. I hold it in high esteem for two major reasons; excellent chocolate and an excellent story.

Divine Chocolate is co-owned by over 85,000 farmers, members of Kuapa Kokoo. This cooperative, located in Ghana, grows the cacao for Divine Chocolate. You can read more about “The Divine Story” on their website. Watch the videos, too. Divine is a remarkable example of what’s right in the world.

Divine has a great selection of chocolates, and I’m pretty sure I’ve had all the dark chocolate varieties.  I’ve had some of their milk chocolate offerings, but not the one I’m reviewing today. This bar caught my eye because of what it said, Seriously Smooth milk chocolate.

Is It Seriously Smooth?

Divine Seriously Smooth Milk ChocolateI can’t imagine a Divine bar not being smooth, but they called it out, so challenge accepted. Even if it is MILK chocolate (written with a smile).

The aromas are unmistakable - rich toffee and caramel. The chocolate, right away, hits you with deep nutty notes quickly followed by incredible buttery toffee. It tastes like you just finished stirring a batch of cooked cream and sugar and licked the spooned! There’s a buttery finish with hints of honey and vanilla.

Now, about that claim, “Seriously Smooth” milk chocolate. Yes, it’s smooth. But (you knew there was going to be a ‘but’ didn’t you?) it feels “thick” in my mouth.

Unfortunately, the thickness tricks me into thinking it’s not as smooth as it could be. Maybe it’s because the chocolate doesn’t slide around the mouth or melt quickly. It seems to stick to the teeth and coat the throat. I automatically want to start chewing it instead of letting it melt on my tongue.

Don’t get me wrong, the sensation is pleasant, and it certainly makes the chocolate flavors hang around for more enjoyment! But it doesn’t allow me to describe it as Seriously Smooth. Sorry, Divine.

Bottom line, though, it is delicious! Forget about semantics and just eat the darn thing. And enjoy every non-slippery, chewy moment.

Amazon sells a 10-pack of this chocolate bar. Take a look.
