Cémoi Chocolatier Francais – Equador 50%

It’s not very often that I find a “dark milk” chocolate bar among the other chocolates in my local retail store. But today is one of those rare days when I happen upon a 50% Ecuadoran Milk Chocolate from Cémoi.

The Cémoi Chocolatier Francais (French Chocolatier) makes single origin chocolate bars from ten locations in France. Cémoi is a 3rd generation family-run business. According to their website, they source beans from Ecuador, Sao Tome, Dominican Republic, and Ivory Coast. They offer only one milk chocolate single origin bar, and that’s the Ecuador 50%.

The aroma is full of rich cocoa notes and dried fruits. The texture is melt-in-your-mouth creamy and smooth. It’s a fast melt, dispersing flavor immediately. The deep chocolate notes have a mild roasted but strong nutty flavor.

There’s a hint of earthiness, and of course the dairy notes are intense - buttery toffee, delicately sweet with subtle oatmeal, dried dates and honey notes. An intense chocolate comes out at the end. The aftertaste is a delicious combination of caramel and chocolate.

Cémoi puts tasting notes right on their package. For the 50% Ecuador they list “Caramel, Dried Fruits and Woody” notes. Keep in mind that tasting notes are subjective. Each person may or may not be able to find them exactly as others do.

In my case, I can smell the dried fruits but found it difficult to find dried fruit notes while tasting.  The caramel was obvious, but the woody notes were elusive. This is just my analysis. Yours could be spot on with Cémoi. In the end though, it doesn’t matter. What matters is whether you like it or not. And I’m betting you’ll like this!

found this bar in a local discount retailer… had never heard of the .
was astounded at how delicious the chocolate was- so many flavor notes without losing the “chocolate taste” and such a smooth texture.
